There are post hole rammers and then there are strainrite post hole rammers! These rammers are great. They have a good long handle on them with a nice heavy foot. The cast iron foot is contoured to the shape of the post and enables you to compact the dirt in your post hole with better precision and greater ease. We find using both ends of the rammer is helpful when compacting our posts. You use the rammer upside down (the thin end) to compact the dirt right at the bottom of the hole and then the foot (right-side up) to compact the dirt as you get further up the hole.
